Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship
Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship
Welcome to California Counseling Clinics’ Predoctoral Internship Program
Bridging Theory and Practice: A Comprehensive Internship for Future Psychologists
At California Counseling Clinics (CCC), we proudly offer a comprehensive, full-time Clinical Psychology Doctoral Internship Program designed for advanced doctoral students (Psy.D. and Ph.D.) from APA- or CPA-accredited programs. Our internship prepares future psychologists through an intensive, integrated training year grounded in clinical excellence, cultural humility, and professional development. We are currently pursuing APA accreditation, and we welcome applicants who are open to completing their internship outside of the APPIC match.
Interns train across our Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Westlake Village offices, serving a diverse range of patients across the lifespan while gaining a strong foundation in psychotherapy, psychological assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ethical practice.
Program Overview:
Our internship year runs annually from August 1 to July 31, offering a 12-month, 40-hour-per-week training experience that meets the 2,000-hour requirement for licensure in many states. Interns are expected to accumulate at least 1,500 hours of supervised professional experience, with training that emphasizes both breadth and depth across multiple clinical domains.
We currently accept applications on a rolling basis for candidates not participating in the APPIC Match. Please review eligibility requirements in our Internship Brochure before applying.
Key Features of Our Internship Program:
Developmentally Sequenced Supervision:
Interns receive 2 hours of individual supervision per week, 1 hour of group supervision per week, and ongoing access to licensed psychologists for consultation. Supervision is provided in accordance with a developmental model to support increasing autonomy across the year.
Robust Didactic Training:
Weekly seminars cover key areas of clinical intervention and psychological assessment, including trauma-informed care, evidence-based treatments (e.g., CBT, DBT, EFT), OCD and anxiety protocols, sex therapy fundamentals, and autism/ADHD evaluations.
Comprehensive Psychological Assessment Training:
Interns gain hands-on experience with psychological testing, including test administration, scoring, interpretation, integrated report writing, and delivering patient-centered feedback. Standard batteries include the WAIS-IV, WISC-V, MIGDAS-2, SRS-2, ABAS-3, D-KEFS, MMPI-3, and ADOS-2.
Collaborative Team Culture:
Interns participate in interdisciplinary case consultations, clinical team meetings, and Solution-Centered Single Session Therapy (SCSST) rounds. Our model emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, and mutual support.
Diverse Clinical Populations:
Interns work with patients across all age ranges and presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence (ASD/ADHD), identity exploration, grief, relationship difficulties, and life transitions.
Competency-Based Evaluation:
Interns are formally evaluated midyear and at year-end across the following domains: ethics, cultural diversity, assessment, intervention, communication skills, research integration, supervision, and professional behavior. CCC is committed to supporting intern success through clear expectations, ongoing feedback, and remediation plans if needed.
